One form of energy can be converted into another form. Its examples are given below:
Hydroelectricity
Generation of electricity through fast-flowing water is called hydroelectricity. In this process the water is stored in a high dam, the end wall of dam has tunnels having turbines in them, when water is released through these tunnels, the fast-flowing water turns the turbines at high speed and generators connected to the turbines produce electricity.
Thermal Power Station
Coal, gas or oil is burnt to change water into steam, in a thermal power station. This steam is used to turn the wings of turbines and generators connected with turbines produce electricity.
Windmills
Windmills are used to generate electricity from the fast wind.
1. Hydro-electric dam convert Potential Energy stored in the water reservoir into Mechanical Energy (Kinetic energy) which turns turbine and produce electricity.
2. In Thermal Power Stations, heat energy produced by burning of fuel is converted into Electrical Energy
3. The Wind Turbines convert the Kinetic Energy in wind into Electric Energy
