Matter consists of very tiny/ small particles. This arrangement is different in solid, liquid and gas.
Arrangement of particles in Solids
The particles in solids are strongly connected/ attached with one another having strong forces of attraction. The particles in solids vibrate but don’t change their fixed position. Solids maintain their definite shape and volume. Solids can’t be easily pressed.
Arrangement of Particles in Liquid
In solids the force of attraction among particles is weaker than in solids. The particles in liquids can move freely, may collide with one another, thus liquids can flow. The volume of liquids is definite but not the shape. The liquid has the ability to take the shape of vessel in which it is poured.
Arrangement of Particles in Gas
In gas the force of attraction among particles is weaker than in solids and liquids, and because of this weak force the particles can move fastly. The particles can move freely in any direction to occupy all the available space. And that is the reason; gases have no definite shape and volume.
Ability to Conduct Heat and Electricity
The objects allowing heat or electricity to pass through them are called conductors of heat or electricity respectively. For example, Copper, Iron etc.
The objects not allowing heat or electricity to pass through them are called non-conductors of heat or electricity respectively. For example, Rubber, Wood etc.
